Talk Guidelines
| • | Speakers will be told the length of their talks well before the meeting. The length given will include time for questions, and so if you want questions, we suggest that you allow for five minutes within the time given you. |
|
| • | All visuals must use PowerPoint. We will not have facilities for slides, overhead projections, or other pre 21st century devices. |
|
| • | You must provide your visuals on a USB key or CD rom (preferably USB). |
|
| • | It is not possible to use one’s own computer for presentations. |
|
| • | The format of the PPT must be either 2007 or 2003. |
|
| • | MAC users should please make sure in advance that their PPT will work with a PC computer. |
|
| • | If you are using movies and/or audio, the files for those must be on the USB key and you must set up the PPT to look into the same directory as the PPT to access that additional information. |
|
| • | Please adhere to the general “rule” of no more than one slide per minute of your talk. |
|
| • | The room for presentations will be relatively long and narrow. Thus, please set up your slides so that they can be seen from the back of the room. We suggest: | |
| - - - - |
Large font Pictures that use maximum use of the space on the slide rather than having a slide that has a small image surrounded by very large background. Have high contrast between the font and the background If you are not sure how to do the best PPT presentation, do a search on Google for “PowerPoint Presentations” and you will find numerous links that give excellent advice. |

Poster Guidelines
| • |
All posters must be in PORTRAIT ORIENTATION. Failure to follow this requirement will mean that the poster will NOT FIT on the allotted board. |
| • | Poster BOARD dimensions = 1 m wide x 2.25 m high. Use size A0 PORTRAIT ORIENTATION (0.84 x 1.19 m). |
| • | Posters should be clear and easy to read. Type size should be sufficiently large to allow people to read from 2-3 metres. (Minimum of 1 cm high for text and 2.5 cm high for titles). DO NOT REDUCE TEXT SIZE IN ORDER TO FIT MORE INFORMATION ONTO THE POSTER. |
| • | Design the poster to convey a CLEAR MESSAGE. If the message is not clear at first glance the reader will move on to an alternative poster, which provides greater initial impact. |
| • | Avoid overload – too much information seriously detracts from the overall impact. LESS IS MORE! |
| • | The SIMPLE use of colour can enhance a presentation, but avoid the temptation towards art! |
| • | Consider the use of a suitable photograph, but do not include as a background to the poster. Keep Logos to a minimum and discrete. Proof read the poster, and get others to do so as well. |
